Games for Change Asia Pacific 2025!

I’m so excited to be speaking at Games for Change Asia Pacific this Melbourne International Games Week!

I’ll be giving a closing keynote on Games and Empathy on Wednesday the 8th of October, and sharing the day with some amazing speakers from a broad range of areas – I can’t wait! There is also a showcase on the 7th and 9th showcasing some amazing games that incite change!

G4CAP is such an amazing conference and I’m so lucky to be a part of it again. If you’re going please say hi – I’d love to see you there!

AVCON 2024!

This year AVON (Anime and Video Games Convention) was held at the Adelaide showgrounds. There were so many great things to see at AVCON – from the indie games room to the tabeletop games, there was something for everyone!

The Indie Games Room was again sponsored by UniSA and in there I was able to play some great games by South Australian developers across all domains – it’s so great to see the support for our local devs!

This year I was lucky enough to speak on a panel all about different paths to becoming a game developer, and the variety of skills that are useful in the game development industries. The panel was chaired by Associate Professor at UniSA Stewart Von Itzstein and alongside me on the panel was the wonderful game developer Billy Bizilis and aficionado of all things audio John Oestmann.

We were able to cover quite a few topics during the session but I think some of the big points were the importance of social growth in the game development industry – the importance of understanding that when we are creating games with others, we all think and approach things in a different way. I love that making games with passionate people gives me the opportunity to learn more about how different people develop their ideas, and how they work on their projects.

Staying open with our communication and ensuring we are using methods to communicate that suit every brain on our team allows us as developers to ensure the development process goes as smoothly as possible and that our games are as strong as they can be!

Video: Using games for learning and social change

In this video I chat about some of my favourite things – how important games are, and how we can use them to change the world!

I also got to talk a bit about my new game project – a game designed to raise awareness of what it’s like to grow up neurodivergent in a world made for neurotypical people.

Hopefully I’ll be able to share more about that project soon!

Global Game Jam: Adelaide 2022

The Global Game Jam was held in Adelaide from the 28th – 30th of Jan, 2022, and I was lucky enough to be a part of the organising committee for the event.

The event was sponsored by Beer Labs, UniSA, MTMM and Fortus Gym and had a wonderful team of co-organisers and mentors supporting amazing jammers throughout the event! Due to covid restrictions, we held the entire event online and the game prototypes created as a result of the jam were amazing!

You can play some of the amazing games created at the Adelaide site on the official Global Game Jam 2022 Adelaide website.

Thank you to our sponsors, co-organisers, mentors and jammers for all your hard work throughout the event!

The Conversation: 5 of the best home-grown games to play this summer

Oh what a hard topic this was! The Conversation asked me to recommend some of my favourite Australian games to play this summer and I had to narrow it down to 5!

Whilst there are so many amazing Australian games to choose from, I ended up recommending Florence, Fruit Ninja VR2, Crossy Road, Untitled Goose Game and the upcoming Rooftop Renegade!
